The caption of the video reads: “Local kids steal a police car.” In a statement this morning (Monday), a Greater Manchester Police spokesman confirmed the force was aware of the incident and a suspect may have been identified.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware that a video of a police vehicle being driven dangerously in Kirkholt over the weekend has been circulated online.

“This happened after a police officer left the car to bravely arrest a 28-year-old man in a nearby shop. Someone got into the car and decided to behave in this way and we believe we have identified them for further action. .”

The vehicle was recovered by GMP a short time later near the scene. This was captured by police in Kirkholt when they arrested a driver on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving without a license and insurance.

They were also arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article, assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage and breach of a court order. They are understood to be in custody this morning for questioning.
